“Keep pushing forward”: West Ham defender says team have to use momentum

West Ham United failed to capitalise on chances as they drew 0-0 with AFC Bournemouth on Saturday evening. The result leaves the Hammers two points behind Nottingham Forest, who play on Sunday afternoon.

Despite not winning the games, Nuno Espiritio Santo’s team matched one of the Premier League’s form sides, blow for blow. On-loan Chelsea defender, Axel Disasi believes the team have to stay unbeaten, and keep the momentum going to get out of their current situation.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the 27-year-old talked about how the Hammers have to build on every result:

“We knew we were going to be facing a tough team against Bournemouth today. They came here having been playing very well, in good shape, but I think we played very well.

“We created many chances, and we have to keep going with that, because we need the confidence to achieve our goals. I hope we can keep pushing forward to get more clean sheets, and win the games we’ve got coming up.”

Axel Disasi’s performance

Since joining West Ham on deadline day, Disasi has been thrust into the starting line-up following Jean-Clair Todibo’s suspension. Slipping in to form a partnership with Konstantinos Movropanos, the French defender has looked fairly comfortable in an Irons shirt.

A strong performance in the win over Burnley coupled with a repeat in the draw with Manchester United, meant that Disasi kept his place for this game. Defensively, it was business as usual, but the 27-year-old did have a chance to score at the other end, and admitted he was kicking himself for not finding the net:

“With my chance, Petrović made a great save, and then on the rebound I tried to sort my feet, but they defended really well. But I think throughout the game we did well at set-pieces, so we have to keep going with that and hopefully we can score in the next game.

“I think the last 15 minutes were more open, with both teams wanting to win. In those kind of circumstances you have to be clever, because you’re pushing to win but you have to keep the balance as well.

“I think we did well, and we had two strikers on at the end, because we wanted to win. We didn’t do that, but there are positives. We’ve got another clean sheet, so we’ll move forward and go again next week.”

Next up for West Ham

Next in line for West Ham and Disasi is Liverpool. With the team’s draw with Bournemouth, it keeps the Irons in the bottom three, two points behind Forest, who are yet to play.

It just so happens that their nearest relegation rivals play Liverpool, with the team hoping the Reds can do them a favour this week, before Nuno’s team head to Merseyside next week.

The situation may not be ideal, but West Ham are now unbeaten in their last three Premier League games, with three wins from their last six matches in the division.
