West Ham are interested in signing Marseille midfielder Mario Lemina this summer, according to French source La Provence.
The 21-year-old central midfielder is one of Marseille’s best young prospects and has also been linked with West Brom and Newcastle this summer.
Lemina’s game time is set to be reduced this season as the Ligue 1 side close in on the signing of ex-Arsenal midfielder Abou Diaby, who was set to join West Brom. Lemina is seen as an alternative to Diaby.
The Gabon-born Frenchman signed for Marseille two years ago in a £2.8m deal from Lorient, and has made 46 appearances in those two seasons with the club, and is an established youth international at U20 and U21 level with France.
Having signed former West Ham target Lassana Diarra this summer as well, Lemina could be offloaded to make way for their new signings, not to mention the club’s well documented financial trouble, which forced them to sell Dimitri Payet to West Ham last month in a £10.7m deal.
