West Ham are moving closer to completing a deal to sign Esteban Cambiasso this summer, according to reports.
The Hammers have held positive talks with Cambiasso’s brother and agent, Federico, and are now nearing an agreement over a free transfer.
We were first reported to be interested last month, but it now appears the club have firmed up their interest in the Argentine, who has 52 international caps to his name, scoring five goals.
The former Real Madrid and Inter Milan star was released by Leicester this summer following the expiry of his one-year deal, and enjoyed a great season at the King Power stadium, scoring five goals in 33 appearances.
The Foxes are said to be keen on re-signing Cambiasso, and Aston Villa are also keeping tabs on the midfielder, but it appears West Ham are going to win the race to sign the 34-year-old.
With Pedro Obiang currently injured, and imminent signing Alex Song battling an ankle problem which could put him out for several months, Cambiasso’s arrival would add some much needed depth to our midfield ahead of our busiest season in recent history.
