Former West Ham attacker Nene has revealed that the club are interested in re-signing him this summer, according to L’Equipe.
The 34-year-old, who was released last month by the Hammers following a disappointing stint at the club, tells the French newspaper that his former side want to bring him back, but he “he didn’t like the experience” at the club.
The move to sign the former PSG star was instigated by David Gold and David Sullivan, but then manager Sam Allardyce was very much against the move.
In a final move to stuff it at the board, Allardyce refused to play the creative attacker, who could play on either wing or behind the striker, and restricted Nene to just eight appearances, all from the bench, where he failed to find the net or record an assist.
West Ham decided not to take up their one-year option in Nene’s contract and allowed him to talk, but are now understood to be interested in bringing him back following the sale of Stewart Downing.
Goal reported several weeks ago that the Hammers, as well was Watford and West Brom (who tried to sign the Brazilian before the Hammers eventually got him last season), were all keeping tabs on his situation.
However, Nene was understood to be on the verge of signing for Olympiakos, but has since pulled out of a move over fears about their financial crisis.
“There are many things that are not clear.” He said.
“I know Greece is under a big crisis and Europe expects developments.
“It’s better to wait and so I decided not to sign for Olympiakos.“
So now Nene is back on the search for a new club, should West Ham make a move for the player?
