West Ham reportedly tried to resurrect Edson Alvarez’s move to Olympiacos after rejecting a package worth up to €15million, only to discover the opportunity had gone.
According to Claret & Hugh’s report, the Hammers initially considered the offer insufficient before changing their position.
By then, the Greek club had moved on.
Edson Alvarez transfer bid included €5m in add-ons
Claret & Hugh attributes the information to an agent involved in Alvarez’s previous move to Fenerbahce.
The agent told the outlet: “Olympiacos bid €10m plus €5m in add-ons but West Ham rejected it because it was too low.”
That breakdown matters. The reported proposal included €10million guaranteed, with the remaining €5million dependent on add-ons.
The outlet says West Ham subsequently approached Olympiacos about reviving the deal, but their change of stance came too late.
Nuno now faces Alvarez selection decision
The transfer account follows reports that Alvarez remains part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s plans, with the midfielder understood to have returned to training with his group.
Our view is that his next competitive involvement will offer the clearest indication of where he stands.
Arne Engels, Divine Mukasa, Lewis Orford and Mohamadou Kante have all featured in West Ham’s midfield plans. Alvarez therefore faces competition as he attempts to turn training involvement into minutes.
For West Ham, the practical question is how much he can contribute while he remains at the club.
For Alvarez, earning a place in Nuno’s matchday squad would represent a meaningful step towards rebuilding his role.
