Stoke City are providing competition for West Ham in the race to sign England international defender Glen Johnson, reports the Express.
The 30-year-old fullback was released by Liverpool this summer, and it was reported last week that he was in talks with the Hammers about a return to East London.
With 54 international caps for England, Johnson could provide some excellent cover at both right and left-back should he agree terms to a contract and return to Upton Park, where he began his career prior to a move to Chelsea.
West Ham are expected to sign at least one right back this summer, and that man is said to be Carl Jenkinson, who is on the verge of a return from Arsenal on another season-long loan.
The England international made 36 Premier League appearances for West Ham last season and has snubbed a move to Sunderland in order to spend another year developing at West Ham.
Another possible arrival could be Peruvian fullback Luis Advincula. Having impressed at the Copa America, the Hoffenheim defender is set to leave the club this summer, with West Ham believed to have agreed a deal to sign the player.
