Hammers Linked With Townsend

West Ham are considering a surprising move for England international winger Andros Townsend, reports the Guardian.

The Tottenham midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer, as he finds first-team opportunities hard to come by in the Premier League, only making 17 league appearances last season, only ten of which were starts, scoring two goals.

Townsend has a much stronger record for the national side, with three goals in nine England appearances.

Sunderland are also in the race to sign the 23-year-old this summer, if they fail in a bid to sign Hammers wide-man Stewart Downing, having been linked with a move today. West Ham’s interest also hinges on whether they lose the 30-year-old this summer.

Swansea and Aston Villa are also said to be very keen on signing Townsend this month. Tim Sherwood wants to bring Townsend with him to Villa Park, having spent time with him during his time at Tottenham manager.

The winger has three-years left on his contract, and was subject to failed £10m and £12m bids from QPR and Southampton respectively last summer.

Townsend isn’t the only Tottenham man West Ham are considering a move for, as they have registered their interest in £12m-rated Chelsea target Moussa Dembele.
