Carroll Wants Newcastle Return

West Ham striker Andy Carroll wants to leave West Ham to return to his boyhood club Newcastle, reports the Express.

The club-record signing has spent most of his time in East London on the injury-table, and club officials are growing increasingly impatient with the Englishman.

The 26-year-old has been repeatedly hampered with an ongoing ankle injury, but his season was ended this time around due to a severe knee injury which required surgery.

Carroll was in the stands cheering on Newcastle in the Hammers’ last game of the season as his former side were battling against the drop.

It’s widely reported that Newcastle want to invest heavily this summer in new players, but more specifically British/domestic players, and Carroll fits the bill.

With already over £50m shelled out on the target man striker over his career, it’s unknown how much the injury-prone forward would cost to sign this summer, but it’s unlikely the club would be willing to take a large hit on their initial £15m investment.

West Ham are already low on striking options, with Carlton Cole released, but should Carroll leave, both Modibo Maiga and Mauro Zarate are being brought into the first-team fold next season, says David Gold.
