West Ham have been handed a major transfer boost with the news that both Liverpool and Tottenham have pulled out of the race to sign attacker Andre Ayew from Marseille.
London 24 have quoted L’Equipe as saying that both Spurs and the Reds will not be offering a pre-contract deal to Ayew’s camp, in order to pursue other targets in the summer.
The 25-year-old was subject to a bid from relegation candidates QPR in January, but it was rejected, meaning Ayew will leave Marseille for nothing at the end of June.
Premier League rivals Swansea, Newcastle and Everton are all reportedly interested with clubs from around Europe such as Wolfsburg, Roma, Napoli and Dortmund also keen.
West Ham’s potential Europa League exploits through the Fair Play League could give them the edge over their Premier League rivals if he wishes to cross the Channel.
Although, the allure of Champions League football with Wolfsburg, Napoli and Roma may be too good to turn down for Ayew.
