Hammers Join Cleverley Chase

West Ham have joined a host of Premier League clubs in the race to sign Manchester United midfielder Tom Cleverley in the summer, reports the Mirror.

The England international has spent this season on loan at struggling Aston Villa, who have reportedly informed him and United that they will not be making his loan permanent.

The 25-year-old has failed to live up to the hype he received as a youngster for the Red Devils, and is out of contract in the summer, but will not be short of suitors.

Tottenham, Everton and Sunderland are all reportedly keen on signing Cleverley, who still has his best years ahead of him.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez was Wigan manager when Cleverley was on loan during the 2010/11 season, and have maintained a close relationship. He nearly joined the Toffees last summer before United blocked the move late on.

As for West Ham, we look set to lose Alex Song at the end of the season, leaving a large hole in our midfield, and Cleverley, despite his critics, can be a very serviceable player who can contribute over the course of a season.
