West Ham face fresh injury concern over defender after Southampton Injury

Konstantinos Mavropanos West Ham

West Ham United suffered a setback with a 3-2 loss against Southampton, with the defeat even bitter with a fresh injury concern.

West Ham United could be without Konstantinos Mavropanos for several weeks after the defender picked up a knee injury during Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Southampton.

The Greek international suffered the problem in the final minutes of the game while challenging goalkeeper Daniel Peretz for the ball. The Mavropanos injury has since raised concerns about how long he could be unavailable.

According to ExWHUEmployee, Mavropanos has undergone a scan on his knee, with fears that he could now face a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

West Ham await Mavropanos injury update

The initial signs suggest the 28-year-old is unlikely to be ruled out for several months. However, West Ham are still waiting for a clearer picture of the injury and how long it will take him to recover.

His potential absence would be a concern for Nuno Espirito Santo, given the defender’s massive contributions this season on both sides of the pitch.

Mavropanos was named the Championship Player of the Month for September after scoring in four of West Ham’s five league games during the month. He also helped the Hammers keep two clean sheets during that run.

The Greek defender has continued to make an impact in front of goal and has now scored five times in the Championship this season.

West Ham will be hoping the injury is not as serious as feared, but the confirmed news on hus return is yet to be revealed. However, Mavropanos injury is said to be serious and expected to rule him out for weeks if not months.

West Ham face busy run of fixtures

The timing of the injury is far from ideal, with West Ham preparing for a busy spell in the Championship.

The Hammers host West Bromwich Albion at the London Stadium on Saturday before travelling to Cardiff four days later. They then face Blackburn three days after that.

Saturday’s loss to Southampton also brought an end to West Ham’s nine-match unbeaten run in the Championship.

Nuno’s side will now look to respond against West Brom, but Mavropanos injury update will be a major talking point as they prepare for three matches in quick succession.
