West Ham line up Souček return in private friendly

Tomáš Souček could make his West Ham return in a behind-closed-doors friendly this week, according to a fresh report.

The midfielder has been recovering from the ankle ligament injury he suffered at the World Cup. A friendly appearance would give him an opportunity to rebuild match fitness before Championship football resumes.

Claret & Hugh reports that Souček is expected to feature, citing an agent close to the player who described him as “raring to go”.

The outlet says club sources previously confirmed the friendly. Souček’s involvement remains a reported plan rather than a publicly confirmed team selection.

Tomas Soucek return could strengthen Nuno’s midfield options

West Ham had already been looking towards Souček’s availability after the international break. The latest report offers a more specific indication of how he could prepare for that comeback.

Claret & Hugh says Souček has resumed training but did not feature against Millwall after going without match minutes this season.

An appearance this week would allow Nuno Espírito Santo to assess his readiness before deciding on his involvement against QPR on Friday 9 October.

That assessment carries added importance because Mohamadou Kanté is suspended for the QPR fixture, reducing Nuno’s midfield options.

Souček’s potential availability would add another experienced option. However, completing a friendly would not automatically establish that he is ready to start a Championship match.

His response to those minutes will be the next significant step.
