West Ham’s Manor Solomon delivers blunt verdict after Ireland defeat

West Ham winger Manor Solomon admitted Israel’s players were heartbroken after their 3-0 Nations League defeat by the Republic of Ireland on Sunday.

Solomon criticised his side’s first-half performance after Troy Parrott, Adam Idah and Jack Moylan scored inside the opening 25 minutes in Debrecen.

Speaking to Sport5 after the match, he said, translated from Hebrew: “We have no words, we are all heartbroken.”

The winger said Israel had started in the worst possible manner and urged every player to examine his own contribution. He felt their second-half response showed more fight, but acknowledged it came too late.

Manor Solomon reaction follows second international defeat

The result brought another disappointment for Solomon after he reached 50 Israel caps in the defeat against Austria earlier in the international window.

Against Ireland, there was little opportunity to recover from the early damage.

RTÉ’s match report records a better opening to the second half, with Solomon providing a pull-back for Dor Peretz, whose effort Caoimhín Kelleher saved.

Solomon now has two further internationals before returning to West Ham.

The club’s confirmed international schedule lists Israel’s meeting with Kosovo on Thursday 1 October, followed by another game against Ireland on Sunday 4 October.

West Ham host QPR five days later, leaving Nuno Espírito Santo a short turnaround to assess Solomon after the final fixture.
