Nils Koppen Set to Reveal New West Ham Transfer Interview Process

West Ham United recruitment chief Nils Koppen is reportedly set to reveal details of a new two-stage interview process used when assessing potential signings.

Koppen, who is officially listed by West Ham as Director of Player Recruitment, is expected to discuss his first transfer window at the club in an upcoming extended Iron Cast interview.

According to Hammers News, prospective recruits now go through two interviews before West Ham make a final decision.

The first focuses on football and whether the player fits the club’s sporting requirements.

A second conversation then concentrates on character and personality.

It offers another insight into how West Ham’s recruitment operation has changed since Koppen arrived during the summer.

ReadWestHam previously examined Koppen’s growing influence over recruitment after BBC Sport reported that the Belgian had become increasingly important in transfer discussions.

The upcoming interview is also expected to cover Divine Mukasa’s return to east London.

Hammers News report that Mukasa made clear West Ham were the only club he wanted to join despite interest elsewhere.

The midfielder has since made an immediate impact after returning on loan from Manchester City, with our analysis of Mukasa’s growing importance under Nuno Espírito Santo looking at his early Championship performances.

Koppen’s comments should provide further clarity on the processes West Ham used during their extensive summer rebuild and how the club will assess targets ahead of the January transfer window.
