West Ham’s Morato targets Brazil breakthrough under Carlo Ancelotti

West Ham defender Morato has outlined his ambition to earn a Brazil call-up under Carlo Ancelotti as he looks to establish himself at London Stadium.

Speaking to ESPN Brazil, in comments translated by Sport Witness, the 25-year-old said representing his country remained a major personal target.

Morato was not included in Brazil’s latest squad, but believes the new international cycle could create opportunities for players looking to break through.

“And whenever the national team wants me, my doors will always be open,” he said, according to Sport Witness’s translation of the interview.

The defender also acknowledged that earning a place would only be part of the challenge. His ambition is to stay in the squad once an opportunity arrives.

Morato has a platform to impress at West Ham

Morato joined West Ham on a season-long loan from Nottingham Forest in September, reuniting with Nuno Espírito Santo after previously working under him at the City Ground.

He made his Hammers debut as a substitute against Derby County before scoring his first goal for the club in the Carabao Cup defeat by Fulham.

His international ambition adds another personal target to a season in which West Ham need consistency from their defence.

For supporters, the immediate interest is how that translates into performances in claret and blue. Morato has made his Brazil ambitions clear; his work at club level is the part he can control.
