Alphonse Areola Injury Update as West Ham Target QPR Return

Alphonse Areola is reportedly expected to return to West Ham United’s squad when Championship football resumes against Queens Park Rangers.

The goalkeeper has yet to feature this season after dealing with fitness problems, including a calf issue and a setback during his recovery.

Areola had already been reported back in West Ham training, with the international break giving him further time to build towards match fitness.

Areola Expected Back for QPR

According to Hammers News, Areola is expected to return to Nuno Espírito Santo’s squad when QPR visit London Stadium on Friday 9 October.

The report also addresses recent social-media speculation after photographs and videos showed Areola playing tennis and basketball with his family.

However, Hammers News says a senior West Ham source has described the Frenchman as a positive influence around the squad and rejected suggestions that he attempted to force a summer departure.

Light recreational activity should not be treated as evidence that a player is ready for the demands of professional training or Championship football.

Mads Hermansen has established himself as Nuno’s first-choice goalkeeper during Areola’s absence.

A fit Areola would nevertheless restore experienced competition and provide important cover ahead of West Ham’s busy October schedule.
