Kelly Gago Handed Extra Motivation Before West Ham vs Everton

Kelly Gago has been handed an extra source of motivation before West Ham United Women face Everton on Sunday.

The France international opened her account for the Hammers during last weekend’s 2-1 Women’s Super League victory over London City Lionesses.

Gago now prepares to face her former club as Rita Guarino’s side look to build on their first league win of the season.

The West Ham boss believes that connection could give the forward an additional edge.

Speaking during her pre-Everton press conference, Guarino praised Gago’s development since joining West Ham.

“Kelly Gago has a lot of potential to grow,” she said.

“She trains very well and performs in a way where she can show her strength.”

Guarino also acknowledged the personal significance of Sunday’s fixture.

“I imagine it’s a special game for her [facing her former club], but it’s just a game,” she said.

“Maybe she has more motivation [for this game].”

That extra incentive arrives at a good time.

Gago scored her first West Ham goal against London City, helping the Hammers establish the platform for their first WSL victory of the campaign.

Viviane Asseyi added the second before West Ham survived late pressure to secure all three points.

Read West Ham has already covered Guarino’s latest team news before the Everton game, with Laia Codina available again while Ffion Morgan remains sidelined.

The challenge for Gago now is turning one breakthrough performance into consistent output.

Her physical presence and direct running give West Ham a different attacking option, while her movement against London City caused repeated problems.

Facing Everton should provide another useful test.

The Toffees are likely to be well
