West Ham set remarkable 131-year record in Wrexham demolition

West Ham United made club history during their extraordinary 6-0 Championship victory over Wrexham at London Stadium.

Jarrod Bowen, Joël Piroe, Konstantinos Mavropanos, Taty Castellanos, Mohamadou Kanté and Manor Solomon all found the net as Nuno Espirito Santo’s side recorded a fourth consecutive league victory.

It was not simply West Ham’s biggest win of the season.

The six different scorers also produced something the Hammers had never previously managed in a league fixture.

West Ham set 131-year goalscoring record

According to talkSPORT’s report on the Wrexham demolition, West Ham had never before had six different players score in the same league match.

The previous club record was five.

That means Bowen, Piroe, Mavropanos, Castellanos, Kanté and Solomon combined to create a new landmark across West Ham’s 131-year history.

Our West Ham vs Wrexham match report details how the goals arrived, with two before half-time and another four after the break.

The variety of scorers also underlined the growing number of attacking options available to Nuno.

Bowen and Piroe scored as starters, Castellanos marked his return from injury, while substitute Kanté also found the net.

Mavropanos made it goals in consecutive Championship games from centre-back.

Biggest West Ham league win since 1998

The result also represented West Ham’s biggest league victory for 28 years.

West Ham’s official club records list a 6-0 victory over Barnsley at the Boleyn Ground in January 1998 as their record Premier League home win.

Not since that afternoon had the Hammers won a league game by a six-goal margin.

The scale of Friday’s victory becomes even more impressive when placed alongside West Ham’s recent run.

Nuno’s side have now beaten Wolves, Derby County, Bolton Wanderers and Wrexham in succession.

They have scored 16 goals across those four Championship victories.

West Ham also moved onto 14 points and provisionally top of the division ahead of Saturday’s fixtures.
