Nuno identifies West Ham problem before Wrexham clash

Nuno Espírito Santo has identified one area West Ham United must improve despite their three-match winning run in the Championship.

The Hammers head into Friday night’s clash with Wrexham after victories against Wolves, Derby County and Bolton Wanderers.

Tuesday’s 3-2 win at Bolton temporarily sent West Ham top of the Championship and continued their impressive response to a difficult start.

But Nuno is not satisfied.

Reflecting on the Bolton victory during his pre-match press conference, the West Ham boss admitted his side cannot expect to simply outscore opponents every week.

“It’s not always going to be possible to score three goals in games,” Nuno said in his West Ham pre-match press conference.

“So we have to look at the goals we are conceding, and try to get back to the clean sheet we got against Derby.”

Nuno wants West Ham improvement before Wrexham

The comments underline the standards Nuno is demanding despite West Ham’s improving results.

West Ham produced their first clean sheet of the Championship season when they beat Derby County 3-0.

They then conceded twice against Bolton three days later.

Konstantinos Mavropanos has already revealed how Nuno demanded greater control at half-time before West Ham eventually fought back to win.

Nuno believes the group is improving as players continue learning about each other.

The manager said West Ham are becoming more confident and positive, but insisted there remain “a lot of things we can do better”.

That message arrives before a Wrexham side who are unbeaten in their last three Championship matches.

Phil Parkinson’s side have scored four goals and conceded only once during that sequence.

West Ham therefore cannot afford another careless defensive performance.

Three consecutive victories have given West Ham momentum.

Nuno’s message is that there is still plenty more to improve.
