West Ham hand first professional deal to 17-year-old striker signed from Tottenham

West Ham United have tied down Academy forward Frankie Day to his first professional contract after the teenager impressed following his move from Tottenham Hotspur.

The 17-year-old has already made an impact for the Hammers’ youth sides and has now been rewarded with professional terms.

It continues an encouraging start to life in east London for a player West Ham recruited from their London rivals.

Frankie Day signs first West Ham professional contract

Day joined West Ham after developing in Tottenham’s Academy and has since pushed quickly into the Hammers’ youth setup.

The England youth international has already made three appearances at international youth level, while his progress at club level has accelerated over recent months.

He marked his West Ham U16 debut with an assist in a 2-0 win against Reading before finishing as the U18s’ leading scorer during pre-season trips to York and Prague.

Day then contributed a goal and an assist across his opening three U18 Premier League South appearances of the new campaign.

His first league goal of the season arrived in dramatic circumstances.

The striker scored in stoppage time against Brentford to help West Ham secure a 5-4 victory, strengthening his case as one of the Academy players worth following closely this season.

West Ham’s own U18 coverage has already shown Day featuring regularly around Luke Smith’s squad, including an appearance from the bench in August’s 5-2 victory at Reading.

West Ham continue to reward Academy pathway

The contract is another positive sign for a club that continues to place significant emphasis on its Academy pathway.

Day remains some distance from senior first-team football, but securing professional terms gives West Ham the opportunity to continue developing a striker who has already produced at youth level.

His background also makes the development particularly interesting.

Tottenham’s own Academy coverage shows Day scoring at U18 level before his eventual switch across London, underlining why West Ham were keen to add him to their system.

Supporters can follow the wider youth setup through West Ham’s official U18 team page, while our own Academy coverage should now link this contract story into the wider pathway content.

Day’s first professional contract is not a first-team breakthrough.

It is, however, another important step for one of West Ham’s younger attacking prospects.
