West Ham will discover their Carabao Cup third-round opponents on Wednesday night. Sky Sports will show the main draw after Preston North End’s second-round tie against Everton. Proceedings should begin at approximately 10.15pm BST.
What time is the Carabao Cup third-round draw?
The EFL has confirmed the draw arrangements for Wednesday 26 August. A pre-draw will take place at approximately 7.20pm during the build-up to Preston v Everton. The main draw follows the match at Deepdale.
With kick-off at 8pm, the main event should start at around 10.15pm. A penalty shootout would delay proceedings because the Carabao Cup sends level ties directly to spot-kicks after 90 minutes.
Supporters can watch on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Football. Subscribers can also stream the draw through Sky Go or the Sky Sports app. Sky has confirmed that the draw will follow Preston v Everton.
Who can West Ham face in the third round?
West Ham earned their place with Tuesday’s 4-1 victory over Southampton, when Joshua Ajala scored twice at St Mary’s.
The 32-team draw contains 23 second-round winners and nine Premier League clubs entering because of European commitments. A pre-draw will decide whether eight Champions League and Europa League teams play at home or away, while the rules keep those clubs apart.
West Ham could therefore face Arsenal, Aston Villa, Bournemouth, Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United or Sunderland. If the Hammers avoid those eight, they can draw another unseeded side. The third round has no north-south split.
Ties will take place across the weeks beginning 7 and 14 September. Organisers will confirm West Ham’s exact date and kick-off time afterwards.
