West Ham remain interested in Sheffield United midfielder Sydie Peck, but the Blades’ promotion ambitions could complicate any attempt to bring the 21-year-old to the London Stadium.
Nuno Espírito Santo is still reshaping his midfield after several major departures this summer, with Peck among the younger Championship players identified by the club.
The West Ham Way reported that West Ham retain firm interest in Peck, with ExWHUEmployee suggesting the Hammers could test Sheffield United’s resolve with an offer.
The England Under-21 international has already made close to 100 senior appearances despite his age and fits the younger profile West Ham have increasingly targeted.
Sydie Peck could become harder for West Ham to sign
Sheffield United have their own Premier League ambitions this season.
That creates an obvious complication for West Ham. Selling one of their most promising midfielders to a direct promotion rival would require a compelling offer, particularly if Peck is considered important to their own campaign.
West Ham’s need for another midfielder has also increased following Freddie Potts’ departure.
ReadWestHam reported on Tuesday that Potts completed his permanent move to Club Brugge, removing another option from Nuno’s squad before the Championship season begins.
Mateus Fernandes has also left this summer, while further movement remains possible before the transfer window closes.
Peck would provide Championship experience without sacrificing the age profile and potential resale value West Ham want from new additions.
However, Sheffield United have little reason to make life easier for one of their promotion rivals.
West Ham may therefore need to move decisively if Peck remains high on their shortlist rather than hoping his availability improves later in the window.
