West Ham should consider signing Largie Ramazani as Nuno Espírito Santo searches for a replacement for Crysencio Summerville.
Ramazani has returned to Leeds United following a productive loan spell with Valencia, but his future at Elland Road appears uncertain. The winger was not included in Daniel Farke’s squad for the club’s pre-season tour of the United States.
There is no indication that West Ham have contacted Leeds or Ramazani’s representatives. However, the 25-year-old possesses several qualities currently missing from Nuno’s squad.
Why West Ham should sign Largie Ramazani
Summerville’s departure for Al-Hilal has left West Ham without an established right-footed winger who prefers to attack from the left.
Ramazani operates in a similar role. He looks to receive possession in wide areas before carrying the ball inside, while his acceleration allows him to threaten defenders in transition.
His season with Valencia also provided evidence of improved end product. Ramazani scored six La Liga goals and registered one assist in 1,224 minutes, according to FotMob’s performance data.
Those numbers equate to one direct goal contribution every 175 minutes. They came during a campaign in which Ramazani initially struggled for regular starts before establishing a more prominent role.
The Belgian also understands Championship football. He scored six league goals during Leeds’ promotion-winning 2024/25 campaign, despite starting only a limited number of matches.
Ramazani would not be a direct replacement for Summerville’s full output. He would, however, restore speed and one-on-one ability to a West Ham attack currently reliant on Jarrod Bowen for those qualities.
Leeds decision leaves Ramazani’s future uncertain
Ramazani was among several returning loan players omitted from Leeds’ travelling squad. Jack Harrison, Joe Gelhardt and Max Wöber were also left behind as Farke prepared for the new season.
Leeds Live reported that Ramazani was not selected despite returning from Valencia at the end of June. His omission does not confirm that Leeds will sell, but it offers little indication of an immediate first-team role.
A permanent move could suit a player who needs consistent minutes. West Ham can offer a clear vacancy on the left and a realistic opportunity to become a regular starter.
Nuno will still need Ramazani to adapt to the physical demands of a full Championship campaign. His ability to remain effective against deeper defensive blocks would also require assessment.
Ramazani would offer an alternative to other targets
West Ham are considering several options rather than focusing on one replacement.
ReadWestHam has assessed Sorba Thomas as a strong candidate because of his proven Championship production. The Stoke winger scored 10 goals and recorded 12 assists last season.
Thomas offers greater certainty within the division. Ramazani provides more acceleration and experience of playing at a higher technical level.
West Ham have also held discussions with Simon Adingra’s representatives. ReadWestHam reported that Sunderland value the former Brighton winger at around £30million.
Adingra has Premier League experience but would require a significant investment. Ramazani may represent a more attainable option if Leeds decide he is not part of Farke’s plans.
West Ham should not sign a winger simply because he is available. Ramazani’s age, playing style and recent improvement in Spain nevertheless make him worthy of consideration before the season begins.
