West Ham have cooled their interest in signing Brighton winger Amario Cozier-Duberry.
The 21-year-old had been considered as part of Nuno Espirito Santo’s attacking rebuild, but an Amario Cozier-Duberry transfer to the London Stadium now appears unlikely.
Roshane Thomas now reports that West Ham have stepped back from their pursuit. No reason has been given for the decision, while Brighton are still considering the winger’s future after his productive loan spell with Bolton Wanderers.
Amario Cozier-Duberry transfer interest cools
Cozier-Duberry spent last season at Bolton and helped the club secure promotion to the Championship. He returned to Brighton this summer with two years remaining on his contract, but his route into Fabian Hürzeler’s first team remains uncertain.
West Ham’s interest was not new. The club had tracked the former Arsenal academy player for some time as they assessed younger and more affordable options for their wide positions.
ReadWestHam previously examined why Cozier-Duberry appeared to suit West Ham’s Championship rebuild. His pace, direct running and senior experience made him a logical target for a squad expected to change considerably this summer.
However, West Ham have now chosen not to advance their pursuit. Brighton had reportedly rejected a £5million offer from another club, while Rangers and several sides in Europe have also been linked with the England Under-20 international.
The decision leaves Nuno needing to consider other options as he looks to add greater depth in wide areas. West Ham cannot rely too heavily on their established attackers during a demanding 46-game Championship season.
An Amario Cozier-Duberry transfer could still take place elsewhere. West Ham, though, no longer appear to be leading the race for his signature.
