West Ham United are holding out for around €50m in guaranteed money after Roma submitted a €40m offer plus bonuses for Crysencio Summerville.
The 24-year-old has reportedly said yes to a move to the Stadio Olimpico, giving Roma encouragement as they look to strengthen Gian Piero Gasperini’s attack. According to Matteo Moretto, however, the clubs remain short of a full agreement.
Roma’s proposal is worth €40m before bonuses, while West Ham are asking for around €50m without add-ons. The Serie A club are now considering whether to increase their offer during what Moretto described as decisive hours.
ReadWestHam reported earlier this week that Roma were preparing to step up their pursuit after opening talks with Summerville’s representatives. The player’s approval has removed one obstacle, but West Ham’s valuation remains unchanged.
West Ham hold leverage in Summerville talks
Summerville would be one of West Ham’s most important attacking players during a Championship promotion campaign. His pace and ability to beat defenders would be difficult to replace, particularly with Nuno Espírito Santo still reshaping his squad.
The winger’s willingness to join Roma changes the tone of the negotiations but does not force West Ham to accept a reduced fee. Summerville remains a valuable asset and the Hammers can continue demanding a package reflecting his age, contract position and importance to the team.
The structure of Roma’s proposal may prove as important as its overall value. West Ham want approximately €50m guaranteed, rather than a lower fixed payment supported by bonuses which may never be triggered.
Roma must now decide how strongly they want to pursue their leading target. An improved guaranteed offer could bring the clubs closer, while another proposal below West Ham’s demand is unlikely to end negotiations.
West Ham also need clarity before the Championship season begins. Keeping Summerville would strengthen Nuno’s promotion plans, but a sale at the club’s valuation would provide significant funds for the wider rebuild.
For now, the player has chosen his preferred destination. Roma still have to meet West Ham’s terms.
