Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka, giving West Ham United another defensive decision during their Championship rebuild.
Claret & Hugh reports that Arsenal are monitoring the West Ham right-back as a possible option if Ben White leaves north London this summer. The report cites Football League World and frames Wan-Bissaka as a potential target after West Ham’s relegation.
ESPN has also carried the same broad line, with Arsenal said to be considering the 28-year-old as a possible White replacement.
Wan-Bissaka’s case is not a simple sale. West Ham signed him from Manchester United in August 2024 on a seven-year contract. Sky Sports reported at the time that the deal was worth about £15m.
Nuno Faces Another Defensive Call
West Ham have already raised significant funds this summer. The Guardian reported that Tottenham completed an £85m deal for Mateus Fernandes, giving the club more room to reshape the squad.
That reduces the financial pressure. It does not remove the sporting issue.
Nuno Espirito Santo needs a squad that can handle Championship territory and pressure. Losing a proven one-v-one defender would create another gap, especially before the promotion campaign has settled.
Wan-Bissaka would also be difficult to replace cleanly. He offers Premier League experience, defensive security and a specific duel-winning profile. Those qualities still carry value, even if West Ham need to lower the wage bill and reshape the group.
Read West Ham has already examined how the Fernandes windfall could shape the club’s James McAtee pursuit. Wan-Bissaka now brings a different question.
West Ham must decide whether he forms part of the promotion core or becomes another asset who can fund the rebuild. Arsenal’s interest may test that stance quickly.
