West Ham United are interested in Everton winger Dwight McNeil as Nils Koppen prepares to begin work on the club’s summer recruitment plans.
Sky Sports reports that West Ham have an interest in McNeil, although Koppen must first meet Nuno Espirito Santo and the recruitment team before the club make further progress on new signings.
West Ham confirmed Koppen’s appointment as director of player recruitment on Saturday, subject to work visa clearance. Sky said the Belgian will lead player recruitment, but will not oversee the club’s wider football operation.
McNeil, 26, has already appeared on West Ham’s radar this summer. ReadWestHam previously covered how a possible loan move could give Nuno a senior left-sided option while protecting the club’s budget.
The Everton winger would bring Premier League experience, delivery from wide areas and a left-footed profile to a squad still taking shape after relegation.
West Ham also need to plan around Crysencio Summerville’s future. ReadWestHam reported this week that the club are standing firm over the winger’s relegation clause amid Premier League interest.
McNeil would not count as a marquee signing, but he fits a clear squad need if West Ham lose more attacking depth.
Koppen’s first meetings should give West Ham a clearer view of the next step: move for a proven Championship-ready winger or wait for younger options with stronger resale value.
