West Ham United’s long-running interest in Sydie Peck now has a sharper price point for Nils Koppen to judge.
Claret & Hugh reports that Sheffield United could value the midfielder at around £25m, while TransferFeed’s rumour tracker also notes West Ham’s interest after the sale of Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham.
The Fernandes deal changed West Ham’s midfield picture. Reuters reported that Tottenham signed the 21-year-old from West Ham in a club-record deal valued at £85m. That sale gives the Hammers room to act, but it also increases the need for discipline.
Peck has already been on West Ham’s radar. ReadWestHam covered the club’s interest last month, when the Sheffield United midfielder stood out as a young Championship player with Premier League potential.
Koppen Has To Judge The Value
Peck fits several parts of West Ham’s current brief. He is 21, has Championship experience and offers the kind of development profile that could work for a club trying to win promotion without building only for one season.
TransferFeed also lists Brentford and Nottingham Forest as interested clubs, while noting that Peck’s contract at Bramall Lane runs until at least 2028, with Sheffield United holding an option for another year.
Fernandes’ exit has removed carrying power and energy from midfield. Nuno Espirito Santo needs replacements who can help straight away, but West Ham cannot treat the £85m sale as a reason to overpay for the first suitable name on the list.
Peck’s age, ball-winning and Championship readiness all appeal. A £25m fee in the second tier still has to bring a clear role, not just long-term upside.
West Ham Need Movement And Restraint
Koppen’s arrival as director of player recruitment gives this decision extra weight.
West Ham appointed him to bring more structure to the rebuild, and this kind of deal will show how the new chain works. The club need midfield additions, but they also need value across several positions before the Championship season begins.
A move for Peck could look sensible if Sheffield United soften their stance or West Ham structure the deal around add-ons. Paying close to £25m as a straight fee would be a much bigger statement, especially with other areas of the squad still needing work.
The balance is clear enough. West Ham need players who can help Nuno control Championship games now and still hold Premier League value if promotion follows.
Peck may fit that idea. Koppen’s task is making sure the fee does too.
