West Ham United are set to sign Portugal Under-21 midfielder Gustavo Sá from Famalicão in a deal worth around €20m.
Portuguese outlet Record reports that Sá is leaving Famalicão to join West Ham, with the fee expected to make him the Portuguese club’s record sale.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder has been one of Famalicão’s most valuable young players and had previously attracted interest elsewhere in Europe and Saudi Arabia.
For West Ham, the move would be a significant early statement in Nuno Espírito Santo’s Championship rebuild. The club have already been working through the consequences of Mateus Fernandes’ departure, with ReadWestHam covering how his £85m Tottenham move changed the scale of the summer rebuild.
Sá does not arrive as a direct Fernandes replacement, but he would give Nuno another young Portuguese midfielder with technical quality, size and room to develop.
The fee also points to West Ham operating from a position of intent rather than simply cutting costs after relegation. A €20m deal is a serious outlay for a club preparing for the second tier, especially with promotion pressure already clear before the new season.
West Ham still need balance across the squad, but this would be a notable piece of business.
Sá would add youth, resale value and midfield creativity at a time when Nuno needs the rebuild to move quickly from exits to additions.
