- West Ham United signed Crysencio Summerville for a fee in excess of £25 million
- Summerville’s stock has risen since being named in the Netherlands World Cup squad
- The Hammers sold Mohammed Kudus for a £18 million profit
If West Ham United are to alleviate the financial pressure the club faces following their drop to the Championship, they will have to unwillingly part with a select few players. Crysencio Summerville is undoubtedly one of those stars, whose rising stock will have him shortlisted by a number of European clubs.
Despite only contributing to seven league goals, 24-year-old Summerville has been called up to the Netherlands’ 2026 World Cup squad, making his international debut on Wednesday in a 1-0 loss against Algeria.
As stated, the decision to keep Summerville will likely be out of Hammers’ hands given their impending relegation. However, if the Dutchman’s departure is less amicable, the club should still push for the winger’s exit.
West Ham can profit from Crysencio Summerville as they did with Mohammed Kudus
Summerville has stood out as a bright spark in the club’s run-in this season. After a lacklustre debut campaign following his arrival last season from Leeds United, the winger’s individual skillset has been much more pronounced this year – contributing to ten goals in 34 matches across all competitions.
Yet, as the numbers show, Summerville has hardly showcased an undeniable production. In fact, apart from the 2023-24 Championship season with Leeds, where he scored 21 goals, laid on 9 assists, and won the league’s Player of the Season, the mercurial winger has never hit double figures in league play, unlike Jarrod Bowen, a consistent source of goals and assists.
The same can be said for Mohammed Kudus before he departed the London Stadium for Tottenham Hotspur last summer. The Ghanaian’s two seasons in claret and blue were a reverse of Summerville’s: showcasing an inconsistent profile that has also been seen in his debut season at Spurs, plus a dire injury record that has kept the former Ajax man sidelined since January 4.
Summerville has also suffered from a similar bout of absences in his Hammers career, with a recent calf injury keeping him out of action for a month.
Crysencio Summerville and Mohammed Kudus’ West Ham season statistics per Fotmob
| Season statistics | Crysencio Summerville (2025-26) | Mohammed Kudus (2024-25) |
| Matches (starts) | 34 | 35 |
| Goals | 7 | 5 |
| Assists | 3 | 4 |
| Succsufl dribbles per 90 | 1.85 | 3.1 |
| Duels won per 90 | 6.1 | 7.09 |
Kudus joined West Ham for £37 million from the Amsterdam club and was sold for an £18 million profit (£55 million), and it’s a sale that few West Ham supporters would say they rue. According to Fotmob, his stock was at its apex before the transfer. Kudus is undoubtedly a talented footballer, but his mercurial style was naturally replaced by Summerville at a profitable rate.
Of course, Summerville has shown the promise that would be worth keeping in the Championship as the club’s fight for immediate bounce-back, but given how burgeoning his value is amongst other European clubs, West Ham would be smart to cash in and hedge their bets on replacing their No.7 in personnel and production.
