West Ham United are going through serious change at the London Stadium. The club will play in the Championship next season for the first time in 14 years and could do so with a completely unrecognizable side.
The Hammers need to raise around £150 million within this window and could sell up to nine first-team players as the overhaul happens. Nuno Espirito Santo will stay at West Ham for their campaign in England’s second division, but what tools he will have to work with, are yet to be seen.
With a lot of starters out of the door, the Irons will need replacements, but ones that don’t break the bank, with finances to be at a minimum. West Ham are looking at Championship players, but are also looking at the Premier League’s unwanted, and one player could fall right into their lap.
Reiss Nelson could be the perfect fit for both his and West Ham’s revival arc
Reiss Nelson has been on the books of Arsenal since his playing career began, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out his time with the Gunners is nearing an end. The 26-year-old has one year left on his deal and has spent the last two season out on-loan, but failing to make a real impact at either Fulham or Brentford.
Injuries have plagued the wingers time over the last couple of years, there is no doubt of that, but the player is in need of some fresh air, and a fresh start. Simply put, that is where West Ham come in. Nelson offers a player with Premier League quality, but in need of a spark and a new chance to prove himself.
The winger will be ready for pre-season and will leave Arsenal this summer. Premier League suitors will be at a minimum and should the 26-year-old want to remain in London, the Hammers can offer a perfect opportunity to give him the platform to not only lift himself, but the Irons back to where they belong.
Nelson can be the ideal Crysencio Summerville replacement
Crysencio Summerville will leave West Ham this summer. That alone leaves a gaping hole in Nuno’s team but one that Nelson can fill.
The technical winger can play anywhere out wide, or across a front three, but prefers the left-hand-side. Whilst Nelson has not played Championship football in his career, ahs displayed his quality at the top level, showing he should have success one step down.
Nelson will be available for almost nothing, should he accept a pay-cut and the step down, the 26-year-old presents the perfect bridge player the Hammers want. Someone who can come in, reignite his career and take the Irons back up, whilst being someone who could stay having been a Premier League regular before.
