- Crysencio Summerville is expected to depart West Ham United
- Summerville has recently been named in the Netherlands’ 2026 World Cup squad
- A player from a fellow relegated team could make sense as the winger’s replacement
All signs point to Crysencio Summerville departing the London Stadium this summer. The mercurial Dutch winger only joined West Ham United in August 2024; however, following the club’s relegation from the Premier League, the former Leeds United man has been earmarked for a potential exit.
AS Roma and Tottenham Hotspur have been credited with an interest in Summerville, who cost West Ham in excess of £25 million, potentially rising to around £34 million with performance-based add-ons, which serves as a benchmark for any deal as the Hammers look to make up £150 million in player sales this summer.
Summerville’s pace and quick-footed profile make for an alluring package, and the 24-year-old’s recent collaboration with Nike suggests his value in the football landscape is only rising. West Ham’s No.7 will also be part of the travelling Netherlands squad after being named in Ronald Koeman’s team for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
Like teammates Mateus Fernandes, Konstantinos Mavropanos and club captain Jarrod Bowen, interest in Summerville will only increase as the summer window edges closer. So, as part of Read West Ham’s four-part series, we look at the three players the Hammers could sign to replace their wanted stars.
Oumar Camara
As Paris Saint-Germain continue to dominate the European football season, winning their second consecutive Champions League title last weekend, the academy can naturally fall by the wayside as the squad’s composition shifts towards its all-conquering ambitions.
Oumar Camara was one of the few youth players who left the French capital, after spending his formative football years at PSG, in search of a more viable pathway into the professional game. Following the expiration of his academy deal, Camara chose to join Liga Portugal side Vitória de Guimarães after a move to Glasgow Rangers fell through, where he has emerged as an intriguing prospect.
From the first observation, Camara’s ability to trap the football upon reception and then turn his marker on the dime, like Summerville, is evident. That type of ball protection, especially at 19, will only increase in value as he grows into his lanky frame.
In his first professional season with Vitória, Camara scored six goals, showcasing an array of finishes, including this curling effort against Tondela, where he uses his overlapping full-back to gain separation from his marker and cut inside for the goal.
The dual-winger was also a crucial contributor in Vitória’s run to the Taça da Liga Cup, winning the penalty for the second goal and scoring from the spot for the third to secure a win over league winners Porto as they also beat Sporting in the next round and Braga in the final.
Transfermarkt values Camara at €8 million, displaying the characteristics of a forward who will project well with more football in his legs and mind; it’s worth the investment.
Jaidon Anthony
An option closer to home, Burnley’s Jaidon Anthony is seen as one of the more statistically similar players to Summerville, according to Opta, and following this season, it’s understandable why. Both players, who played alongside each other at Leeds during the 2023-24 season, have the same relentless hurry in their cadence with the ball, aiming to get beyond their marker.
Anthony was one of two Clarets players to hit double figures for goal involvements in the Premier League this season, with Dutch striker Zian Flemming the other. It follows a season in which he hit eight goals and seven assists the season prior, as Burnley secured promotion from the Championship, and shows a player clearly getting to grips with how to consistently produce at 26.
Of course, any move for Anthony would hinge on securing a player with Championship production on his CV from a fellow relegated team; it would also be expected that swapping Lancashire for East London would appeal to a player aiming to platform his game to a bigger audience as he enters his peak years.
Léo Scienza
The fallout of Southampton’s ‘Spygate’ incident makes Léo Scienza the likeliest of our options…
On the older side, compared to the aforementioned duo, the 27-year-old Léo Scienza was an instrumental creative force in Southampton’s promotion push. According to Fotmob, no player created more than his 21 big chances, and only Gustavo Hamer (12) and Sorba Thomas (11) had more than his 10 assists.
In a similar ilk to Summerville, Scienza is a weaving, left-winger who thrives in the half-spaces. The Brazilian isn’t blessed with Summerville’s pace, but has even carved out an inventive skill set in the Bundesliga with Heidenheim that is conducive to the physical demands of the Championship.
Saints signed Léo Scienza for £7.8 million and have seen his value rise to £8.6 million in his year at the club; any deal will likely start at the former figure, and, given the fee Summerville is likely to demand, a move for Scienza is something West Ham can profit heavily from.
