- West Ham need to raise £150 million this summer
- Mateus Fernandes will leave the club within this window
- The Irons have set their valuation for the 21-year-old
West Ham United are bracing themselves for a number of of departures this summer, as the club look to raise £150 million before the start of the Championship season in August.
Nuno Espirito Santo will remain as Hammers boss but he is now tasked with attempting to assemble a squad when out goings are the priority for West Ham at this stage. The club could lose up to nine players before they will be able to bring anyone in.
At the top of the list is Mateus Fernandes. The 21-year-old will leave the club this summer but his destination is yet to be chosen. The Irons hope the Portugal international will raise the majority of the funds needed, allowing the club to hold onto some of it’s talent.
West Ham name Mateus Fernandes valuation
West Ham have named their valuation for Fernandes, with the club hoping to recoup double what they paid Southampton for the player last summer.
According to The Times, the Hammers want £80 million for Fernandes and as yet are not budging with many top sides interested in the player. Manchester United are one of the names at the front of the list, but want to pay around half the Irons valuation.
Arsenal are also in the conversation, and said to be willing to pay £60 million but not the £80 million West Ham want.
Fernandes is expected to leave the London Stadium no matter what this summer but the Hammers may have to bring their valuation down to do so. The Irons hierarchy believe they know what their player is worth, but the team’s need for cash quickly may force their hand.
