- West Ham have a number of players heading to the World Cup this summer
- Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been called up for DR Congo
- Konstantinos Mavropanos has also been called up, but Greece will not be at the World Cup
West Ham United may be facing a bleak future on the pitch in the Premier League but in the international game names are being called for the World Cup this summer, with a number of Hammers expected to make the trip to North America.
The first name to be called up is Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The defender has been named in DR Congo’s squad for the tournament that begins next month. The 28-year-old has been a key part of the team over the last year and played 120 minutes in their playoff win over Jamaica, the victory that booked their place in North America.
DR Congo will play a friendly with Denmark at the beginning of June to complete their preparation for the World Cup.
The African nation’s tournament begins against Portugal on June 17, before facing Colombia on June 24 and finishing their group stage with a matchup against Uzbekistan on June 28.
West Ham’s Konstantinos Mavropanos joins international call ups
Greece may not have made the World Cup this summer but Konstantinos Mavropanos has been called up for the Mediterranean nation for a number of friendlies this summer.
The 28-year-old has been a main stay in the Greek defence for a number of years, making 41 appearances, netting two goals for his country.
Greece will play Sweden on June 4, as part of former West Ham manager Graham Potters preparation for the World Cup.
They will then face Italy, another nation who missed out on this summer’s tournament, three days later n June 7.
