- West Ham United are one point from safety with three games to go
- The Hammers face wide-ranging competition for the signature of Paris FC’s Moustapha Mbow
- The club loaned in Axel Disasi from Chelsea during the January transfer window
West Ham United’s precarious position in the Premier League means that the club’s summer plans is expected to be full throttle. The Hammers are 18th, one point behind safety-occupiers Tottenham Hotspur, with the proposition of relegation edging closer to reality, thus raising uncertainty around numerous players, particularly their centre-back department.
If relegated, many will attribute West Ham’s woes to their defensive inconsistencies throughout the season. Nuno Espírito Santo’s side kept two clean sheets in three league games during their positive April run, but wilted under pressure at Brentford on Saturday – conceding three without reply.
Over the past several weeks, Konstantinos Mavropanos’ commendable individual form has linked him with various destinations across the continent, and his regular defensive partner Axel Disasi’s permanent transfer to the Irons is contingent on survival.
Furthermore, Max Kilman hasn’t done much to win over management or supporters in recent months; thus, his inevitable departure is unlikely to be shocking. Jean-Clair Todibo is in a similar camp.
Clearly, West Ham are taking a proactive stance with their business, regardless of their league status.
Moustapha Mbow receives ‘significant’ West Ham offer amid Premier League competition
RMC Sport reports that West Ham are one of three Premier League teams keeping tabs on Paris FC’s Moustapha Mbow. The French publication states that the Irons have already made the Senegalese defender a “substantial” bid ahead of the summer.
Domestic competition is expected to come in the form of Fulham and Crystal Palace. Liverpool is also cited with interest after logging an inquiry. Ipswich Town, who were officially promoted from the Championship back to the English top flight last weekend, have also been mentioned, with interest from the Bundesliga and Ligue 1.
The 26-year-old, who was part of the Senegal squad that won the 2026 African Cup of Nations before it was given to Morocco, is said to be enjoying life in the French capital, where he is involved in an exciting project led by Jürgen Klopp as Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer. However, his contract expires in 2028.
Mbow interest may signify shift in Axel Disasi deal
West Ham’s aim of acquiring a centre-back in the off-season is no surprise. The East London club have been linked to a host of names in recent weeks, with Real Betis’ Natan and Bayern’s Hiroki Itō standing out as the main candidates.
The recent news does suggest a shift in the club’s personnel. Axel Disasi had been enjoying a productive tenure in his temporary Hammers career, but with the threat of relegation on the horizon, the possibility of permanent transfer – from both sides – seems to be dwindling.
As it stands, Disasi will return to Chelsea at the end of the season with three years left on his current Blues deal. The French international won’t be short of interest, especially abroad, if a deal with West Ham isn’t pursued.
