  • The result sees the Irons drop back into the bottom three
  • Hammers defender, Axel Disasi, says the team will keep fighting

West Ham United fell back into the Premier League bottom three after they lost 3-0 to Brentford on Saturday. The Hammers had their chances in the first-half, but fell apart in the second, condemning themselves to defeat.

Whilst everyone played their part on a difficult day for West Ham, there was some worrying signs in a defence that has been superb since January. Axel Disasi, a key member of the Irons back line, has told the club’s official website that they have to pick themselves up and keep fighting.

“The past week had been good, and recently we’ve been competing very well. Today wasn’t our day, and it’s true that we’re sad, but it’s important that we clear our heads now and step forward, because we still have three games to go.

“There are still games to be played over the weekend, so right now we don’t know where we’re going to be, so we have to stay positive and keep fighting, because we know there is still a lot of work to do.”

West Ham fans are part of the fight

Disasi has echoed the words of his manager, Nuno Espirito Santo, in saying that the fans can help the team fight. There is two home games left that will be hugely important for West Ham.

“We all know there is a lot of responsibility and pressure, but we can’t let one defeat get our heads down. We’ve shown recently that we can compete with the best teams in the league, so we have to stay confident and positive.

“We’re going to need everyone to keep competing until the end of the season. We’ll stay together, and we just have to bring energy and positivity. That includes us as players and the fans as well, because the atmosphere at the last home game against Everton was crazy.”

Disasi, who is on-loan from Chelsea, has also spoken about how much securing survival with the Hammers would mean to him.

“Of course I take it personally, because since my first day here everyone at the Club – the fans, my teammates and the staff – have shown me love and respect.

“I take this mission personally, because I want to give back that love and respect that everyone has shown me. Again, we have three games to go, and I will fight until the end to make sure we achieve our objective.”

matchday.
