- West Ham remain interested in Charlie Cresswell
- Toulouse admit they have to sell this summer
- Manchester Uniter are also interested
West Ham United have been given a boost in the pursuit of a Ligue 1 defender. The Hammers made a last ditch loan-to-buy move for Toulouse defender, Charlie Cresswell, in September last year. The move was rejected by the club but there is now new hope a deal can be done this summer.
The Irons have kept a close eye on the player, retaining their interest in the 23-year-old. Manchester United are also interested in the defender, but any contact from the Red Devils is yet to materialise.
Now, with the summer transfer window looming, Toulouse’s President has made several remarks that looks as though the club will not be able to keep hold of Cresswell for much longer.
Toulouse President admits Cresswell likely to leave
Toulouse President, Oliver Cloarec was speaking to RMC Sport after the team’s game last week and admitted it may be hard for them to hold on to Cresswell for much more than the next 12 months.
“We’re in complete agreement [that summer sales will happen],” the president says, Cresswell set to depart alongside striker Frank Magri and winger Yan Gboho.
“But this isn’t unique to Toulouse FC; [letting key players go for a profit] is the model for French football.
“We managed to keep them last summer and this winter. There will be sales this summer, and other players will replace them.”
West Ham are also in a selling market but in the midst of that, want to add a defender. Axel Disasi is the club’s top target after his impeccable performances, with the team likely to lose Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Cresswell, a long-term target, arguably lands second on that list and with Toulouse admitting they will have to let their top players go, expect the Hammers to pounce if they confirm their Premier League survival.
