  • West Ham remain interested in Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell
  • Manchester United have joined the race for the former Leeds United player
  • West Ham also want to sign Axel Disasi permanently

West Ham United may be in a relegation fight but look a different team in 2026. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team have been full of fight since the turn of the year, with the Hammers hierarchy already looking at strengthening this summer, regardless of where the team finish.

One player that West Ham have had long-term interest in, is Toulouse defender Charlie Cresswell. The 23-year-old has played in France since 2024 and has been a main stay in the side since arriving.

The Hammers looked to sign Cresswell in January but eventually settled on signing Axel Disasi. Whilst West Ham do want to sign the Chelsea defender permanently, they retain interest in the England youth international but now face competition from Manchester United.

West Ham fight Manchester United for Cresswell

The Irons want to keep their defensive revolution going under Nuno and his team, and believe Cresswell can be a key part in that. Unfortunately for them, the player’s good performances mean other team’s are interested, including the Red Devils.

Speaking via the United Stand Podcast, transfer insider Ben Jacobs told of Manchester United’s interest in the defender.

“One name that I think they really like, that’s a new name I can bring to the mix is Charlie Cresswell, who used to be at Leeds United. An England U21 international, Wolfsburg came very close to signing him in the January window but were not able to meet the Toulouse valuation.” he said.

“So, he’s still there, he’s playing every week in Ligue 1. Along with a few other names, he’s one of the profiles that Man United are looking at.”

The Hammers will know more when their fate is decided this season. West Ham will hope that one of their key targets going forward, is still available if they retain their Premier League status.
