- West Ham failed to score as they drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace on Monday night
- The Hammers current starting strike force has five goals between them
- Dean Ashton believes the pair are making a difference despite the lack of goals
West Ham United drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace on Monday night. The point takes the Hammers to two points above the bottom three but most fans will think it could have been so much more.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team had the better of the chances but could not make the Eagles pay as opportunities were spurned leaving them to settle for a point as Crystal Palace attacked late one. Valentin Castellanos and Pablo Felipe started the game but couldn’t recreate the goals from the 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers last week.
West Ham‘s South American striking pair are starting to form a strong connection but what’s needed from them both is goals. Castellanos now has five goals this season, whilst Pablo is yet to score. If the Hammers are to stay up this season, both front men need to begin finding the net, and fast.
Dean Ashton gives verdict on West Ham striking pair
Former West Ham forward Dean Ashton has given his verdict on the Hammers two strikers. Speaking to Sky Sports, the former Hammers has praise the pair despite their lack of goals, stating that they are contributing in the final third and making a difference.
“I would hate to play as a lone striker,” he said. “I genuinely would because it would be so difficult to know where to run to benefit yourself.
“We used to lick our lips at the likes of [Dwight] Yorke and [Andy] Cole, [Teddy] Sheringham and [Alan] Shearer, and that sort of combination.
“It’s worked wonders for West Ham. It’s really given them the shot they needed in forward areas…
“They’ve got an incredible work rate, and you need that in a relegation battle.”
Nuno’s team now turn their attention to Everton, whom they host on Saturday this week. The Toffees are chasing Europe and present a big test, but are also coming off a Merseyside derby loss, something the Hammers will want to take advantage of.
