The situation: How the weekend’s results change West Ham’s survival chances

  • West Ham drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace
  • Tottenham Hotspur drew 2-2 with Nottingham Forest, keeping them below the Hammers
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers were relegated after the Iron’s draw

West Ham United claimed a point at Selhurst Park on Monday night as they drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace. The point is another step in the right direction for the Hammers, who are now two points above the bottom three.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men could not take their chances but defended well to claim the draw. West Ham now look to take on Everton this weekend, in another huge game for the team.

Tottenham Hotspur failed to put pressure on the Irons as they drew 2-2 with Brighton & Hove Albion despite leading twice. Xavi Simons thought he has won the game for Spurs before Giorginio Rutter popped up in added time to earn the Seagulls a point.

The result sees Spurs remain in the bottom three and below West Ham.

Nottingham Forest kept their good form going, dismantling Burnley 4-1 on Sunday. Morgan Gibbs-White scored a hattrick as Vitor Pereira’s team move onto 36 points.

Not out of the woods yet but making serious strides to be safe sooner rather than later.

Leeds United remain in 16th but secured another win to take them to 39 points. The Lilywhites followed West Ham’s lead and took Wolverhampton Wanderers apart, beating them 3-0 on Saturday.

Newcastle United sit on 42 points, 11 above the drop but the Magpies did lose their third straight game. Pressure is building on Eddie Howe as his side lost 2-1 to AFC Bournemouth.

The bottom two

Burnley were taken apart by Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon. The result means that should Scott Parker’s side lose to Manchester City on Wednesday night, they will be relegated from the Premier League.

The Clarets last won a league game in early February and have lost five games since.

Wolves were relegated after West Ham avoided defeat on Monday night. Rob Edwards team had already lost to Leeds United on Saturday, taking their fate out of their hands.
