- West Ham beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 on Friday night to move out of the Premier League bottom three
- Pablo Felipe assisted Valentin Castellanos with an audacious flick
- Konstantinos Mavropanos netted the Hammers other two goals
West Ham United dismantled Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 on Friday night. The win took the Hammers out of the bottom three, a place where they have remained after Tottenham Hotspur‘s 1-0 loss to Sunderland yesterday.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team started slowly but put on a show as the game progressed, with Konstantinos Mavropanos and Valentin Castellanos netting the all important goals.
Pablo Felipe, who got an assist in the game, has been telling the club’s official social channels just how much the win means to the team.
“It means a lot,” Pablo said. “We knew how important this game was and it’s a big step for our main goal this season. The whole team had a strong mindset. We knew it would be a tough game, but we never stopped believing or fighting, not even for a second, and we’re incredibly happy to have secured this victory, this great victory, in our stadium, in front of our fans. And we’re very happy about it.”
For the young striker, it was immediate redemption after his penalty was saved in the FA Cup shootout loss to Leeds United.
“Yes, it was a tough blow for us, the penalty shootout loss to Leeds,” he observed. “But I think we deserved more from that game, we deserved to go through. But we knew the importance of this game, we knew what we had to do.
“The group is united, in defeat and in victory, we’re always united. And we came together, trained intensely to prepare for this match and give a strong performance because we all deserved this victory and we knew how important this match was. We came out with everything we had and we’re incredibly happy to leave here with the win.”
West Ham’s 12th man
Pablo has had to work since his move to West Ham. After starting well, the Brazilian picked up an injury and spent some time on the side lines. Whilst the 22-year-old is still waiting on his first Hammers goal, he is back in the team and contributing.
“Yes, it was a great assist!” he smiled. “Taty and I are, more and more, we’re understanding each other better. We’re always talking to improve our movements, so we can stay connected during games. And I’m really happy to set up his goal. It was a very quick play, just on instinct. But, thank God, it worked out. I managed to set up the goal, he scored, and we all walked away happy.”
The focus for Pablo might be on improving every day but he credits a lot of his performances to the fans, stating they are so important to the team.
“The fans are always very important,” he confirmed. “I always say this and emphasise it, whether we’re playing at home or away. But at home, the noise is deafening. They’re like a 12th player for us on the field. And we always need their support, because they’re very important. And it will definitely help us achieve our goal for the season.”
