- West Ham beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 4-0 on Friday night
- The Hammers are now two points clear of the Premier League relegation zone
- Tottenham Hotspur have taken West Ham’s place in the bottom three
West Ham United took themselves out of the Premier League’s bottom three with a 4-0 win over over Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday. The three points meant that Tottenham Hotspur had to win if they wanted to put the Hammers back in the relegation zone, something they failed to do.
Goals from Konstantinos Mavropanos and Valentin Castellanos helped West Ham to an emphatic win at the London Stadium. The Hammers have now won two of their last five league games, making them the joint-form team in the bottom four.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s team now sit two points above the bottom three, heading into an away trip against Crystal Palace on Monday night. Spurs host Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday night, a team chasing Europe that have won their last three games.
Michael Owen reveals why he thinks West Ham will stay up
As things stand, Premier League survival is in West Ham‘s with them being above the cut line. Whilst the table looks good for Hammers fans right now, there is still a long way to go this season.
England legend Michael Owen has backed the Irons to carry on their form, tipping Spurs to be the team that fall through the trap door, he told Premier League Productions.
“Well, what we’ve got is Leeds, they’ve got the best run-in. Wolves and Burnley at home, they’ll be alright,” former Liverpool, Newcastle and Manchester United striker Owen says.
“Forest, they’re in decent enough form. Burnley at home [next up], that’s a winnable game. Of course, they at home on the last game of the season [vs Bournemouth], and they are three points ahead of Tottenham.
“West Ham are probably in the best form out of these four teams. They’re playing exceptionally well. They’ve got the momentum, and they’ve got a couple of games that they possibly should win as well. A couple of home games that they might have a chance at.
“I think before this weekend, I thought it was between Leeds and Tottenham to go down. After that result [at Old Trafford], I’m favouring Tottenham to go down.”
