- West Ham are sweating the fitness of nine players heading into their game with Wolves on Friday
- Axel Disasi, Adama Traore and Alphonse Areola are all being assesed
- The Hammers hope to have five players back as the Premier League returns
West Ham United are sweating the fitness of nine total players following their FA Cup exit at the hands of Leeds United. The Hammers were taken the distance as they played 120 minutes, only losing out on penalties to miss out on a trip to Wembley.
A number of players missed the game having either not fully recovered through the international break, or returned late. Crysencio Summerville, Jean-Clair Todibo, Mads Hermansen, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Konstantinos Mavropanos and Callum Wilson were all not included in the matchday squad.
To make thing’s worse for West Ham, three players are being assessed this week after picking up niggles in the FA Cup quarter final.
Axel Disasi, who scored the last minute equaliser, is being assessed after playing through something that could be more serious than cramp. Adama Traore, who had his break out game for the club, is also being assessed. Alphonse Areola, who was replaced prior to spot kicks by Finlay Herrick, injured his ankle but there is less worry of the Frenchman’s return date.
Hope of a five player return for West Ham
There is hope that Nuno will be able to welcome a total of five players back for Friday’s game with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Hermansen is expected to return between the sticks this week. The Danish goalkeeper was rested on Sunday but is said to be ready to go as the Premier League returns.
Wan-Bissaka missed Sunday’s game after being held back by DR Congo. The fullback helped his nation qualify for the World Cup but was not permitted to travel back to London until yesterday. Despite the fact the 28-year-old should have been available last weekend, he will be ready to go on Friday.
Mavropanos suffered a head injury on international duty with Greece, missing the nations second game of the break. The central defender was in head injury protocol and that is why he missed the game with Leeds. It is confirmed the 28-year-old will be back for Wolves.
Many thought Wilson would be involved on Sunday but the striker was another to miss out. The 33-year-old was not risked as he is suffering with a niggle. Wilson is another expected to be good to go on Friday.
Summerville, West Ham‘s star man, has missed three games since suffering a calf injury. Nuno stated prior to the Leeds game that he needs time, but the 24-year-old is expected to be in the squad on Friday night.
Todibo, another injured before the international break, is expected to return this week. The French defender pulled up in the warm ups before the Hammers 2-0 loss to Aston Villa but has recovered well and will also be in the squad for Wolves.
