- West Ham lost to Leeds United in the FA Cup quarter finals on penalties
- Adama Traore had his best game in a Hammers shirt despite the loss
- Traore say’s the fight shown can help them stay in the Premier League
West Ham United fell just short of booking a trip to Wembley as they lost on penalties to Leeds United in the FA Cup. The dramatic game was not without positives for the Hammers, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s team scoring two stoppage time goals to show they will never give up on a game.
Adama Traore, who has had an indifferent time with West Ham so far, had one of his best game’s in an Irons shirt and could be deployed again on Friday, with Crysencio Summerville’s status still up in the air.
The 30-year-old told the club’s official website that whilst he and the team were disappointed by the result, it show’s that they have the fight to stay in the Premier League this season.
“It’s sad because of the loss, but we have to take the positive to go to the next one,” Traore said. “I think the fighting spirit, we fight until the end. It’s sad we come out of the penalties, but we’ll be trying to take the positive and to improve and be better in the next game.
“We have to move on. This game is in the past already, so we have to focus on the next one. It 100 per cent gives me the belief we can stay up.
“I think we have to take it. It would have been better if it was a win but, like I said, we have to take the positives and we have to move on.”
Growing into West Ham colours
Traore has been adamant that he will improve at West Ham since joining the club in January. The winger finally showed it on Sunday, running the show for the Hammers as they made a miraculous comeback.
“I think I’m happy, but I would be more happy if we won on Sunday but, like I said, we have to keep working, take the positives and move to the next game because this game is in the past already.
“I love the identity of the Club and the fans also, they are very passionate like me when I play. So yes, I feel very valued, plus I know the manager [Nuno Espírito Santo].”
Nuno’s men host Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday. The game not only massive in the grand scheme of the relegation fight, but could see West Ham out of the bottom three going into Saturday.
