West Ham United are reportedly ready to sell Edson Alvarez this summer, with 1. FC Köln pushing to sign the Mexico midfielder.
Florian Plettenberg of Sky Sport Germany reports that West Ham are “100% ready” to let Alvarez leave, while a loan deal could also be considered if required.
The same update claims Alvarez is looking for a new challenge and has opened the door to joining Köln. Clubs are already in contact, with the Bundesliga side described as serious about a deal despite further interest elsewhere.
Alvarez remains under contract at West Ham until 2028, but his future has looked uncertain for much of the summer. Read West Ham has already covered how Alvarez’s return after Mexico’s World Cup exit left Nuno Espirito Santo with a midfield decision, and this latest report gives that situation a clearer transfer direction.
Alvarez Exit Would Reshape West Ham’s Midfield Plans
For West Ham, the appeal is obvious enough. Alvarez is an experienced international with European pedigree, but he also represents one of the more realistic ways to free up wages and create room in a Championship rebuild.
A permanent sale would be the cleanest outcome, although the mention of a possible loan suggests West Ham may have to stay flexible if Köln cannot reach the numbers required.
Nuno still needs reliable midfield depth, but keeping a senior player who wants a new challenge would bring its own problems. If Köln can turn their interest into an offer, West Ham may soon have a proper exit route for one of their biggest-name midfielders.
