West Ham United lost 2-0 to Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon meaning they head into the international break one point from safety. It was a bad day all round for Nuno Espirito Santo’s team, with any gameplan going out the window as Jean-Clair Todibo having to be taking out of the starting XI after being injured in the warm-ups.

The Hammers failed to recover from the early setback, with John McGinn netting for the host’s early on. West Ham would look better in spells of the second-half but a mistake from Mads Hermansen set up Ollie Watkins to essentially end the game.

Adama Traore, who was introduced at half-time on Sunday, hasn’t had the best time as an Irons player as of yet. Speaking to the club’s official website, the 30-year-old spoke of his own performance, whilst stating that the team’s fighting spirit will always give them a chance.

“I’m definitely disappointed [with the result], but I think we have to keep our heads up, keep the fighting spirit.

“We work, we try. Of course, we have to improve things each game and I think the most important thing is we’re not going to surrender, we’re not going to stop fighting. I believe in this team and I believe in the plan.

“I think we had a couple of chances. This is why we keep trying to be better every game. We’re going to watch back the game, for sure, as we do. We’re going to check what we can do better and we’re going to go again.

“Like I said, the most important thing is to keep the fighting spirit and we’re not going to surrender.”

Improvement on the mind for West Ham’s Adama Traore

Traore has made nine appearances for West Ham since his winter window move from Fulham. In that time, the Spaniard is yet to register a goal involvement but has not played a full 90 minutes for the club in that time.

The winger knows he need’s to improve, especially with the uncertainty of Crysencio Summerville’s status going forward.

“I’m not pleased because we didn’t win, so I’m never pleased if we don’t win but yes, 45 minutes is a long time, to be honest. I’m keeping up my work to help the team the best I can.

“And I will be better and better and better. This is my mentality. It’s been a long time since I hit 45 minutes. I expect to be better in the next game.”
