Mateus Fernandes Valued At £80m As Manchester United Talks Advance

West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes is valued at around £80m as Manchester United push on with talks over a summer move.

The 21-year-old has become one of the clearest saleable assets in West Ham’s post-relegation rebuild, and United’s interest has now moved into a more serious phase through conversations with his agent Jorge Mendes. Tottenham have also explored the situation, but the latest direction of travel points more strongly towards Old Trafford.

Fernandes only joined West Ham from Southampton last summer, but his individual level in a struggling side has made him one of the most-watched midfielders in the market. His ability to carry the ball, receive under pressure and connect midfield to attack explains why elite clubs have stayed close despite the Hammers’ difficult season.

West Ham must control the transfer clock

The key for West Ham is not simply the headline valuation. It is whether they can keep control of the timing and structure of any deal while interest gathers around Fernandes.

United are described as leading the race and being in advanced discussions with Mendes, according to a fresh transfer update from talkSPORT. That makes this an important test of West Ham’s resolve: sell too cheaply and the rebuild loses its best bargaining chip; hold too long and the market could narrow.

For now, Fernandes’ price tag gives the club a firm public position.
