West Ham United fought their way into the FA Cup quarter finals on Monday night. Brentford took the Hammers the distance, with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side having to dispatch five huge penalties in order to book their place in the next round.

Going into the game, the big emphasis was on keeping the momentum going for West Ham. Nuno made seven changes, but the Iron’s did just that, getting into Brentford from the off. All was going right, before Crysencio Summerville, who came on at half-time, was seen limping around the pitch in extra time.

It is now revealed that he 24-year-old has suffered a calf injury and would have been taken off, had Nuno not used all his five substitutes at that time. The club reported that he was due to have a scan yesterday, with further test’s done today, and now his time line has been revealed.

Crysencio Summerville to miss two weeks

There was fears that Summerville could miss significant time, something that just could not happen with West Ham’s relegation situation. The attacker will miss Saturday’s game against Manchester City but the hope is that the 24-year-old will return for the following weekend, when the Hammers head to Aston Villa.

Summerville has been in superb form for Nuno’s team in the second-half of the season. The winger has scored seven goals in his last 11 games in all competitions, crediting his form to Irons manager and the birth of his baby girl.

The injury is not only bad timing for the Hammers but also the player. Summerville has represented the Netherlands at youth level but is yet to receive a call up to the senior side. Dutch national team boss, Ronald Koeman, had told ESPN that they were keeping a close eye on the 24-year-old, and his form.

“Our biggest competition is often in midfield and defence, but in attack, it’s a bit less,” Koeman said.

“He plays in the Premier League and is important there at West Ham United. He can play on the right and the left. We’re looking closely at that.”

Summerville’s superb West Ham form

With West Ham in a precarious relegation battle in the Premier League, Summerville’s form cannot be understated. The Hammers, led by Jarrod Bowen, were seven points adrift as 2026 began. Now, in thanks to the 24-year-old and others, are level on points with Nottingham Forest in 17th.

Whilst the building blocks of the revolution has been done in defence with the help of Paco Jemez, Summerville has been doing the business for West Ham up top. Since the Hammers game with QPR on January 11th, the winger has scored seven goals. That’s his highest tally in an Iron’s shirt and takes him to five Premier League goals, his highest in his career at this level.

West Ham looked strong on Monday night but Brentford is a different task to Manchester City. Nuno’s team will now have to go head-to-head with title challenger without their star winger.
