West Ham United head to Liverpool tomorrow looking to continue their fight to stay in the Premier League this season. Nuno Espirito Santo has his team looking solid defensively, but they have some work to do going forward, having failed to score from 20 shots in their goalless draw with AFC Bournemouth.
One player who has found to net in recent times, is winger Crysencio Summerville. Speaking to BBC Sport, the West Ham attacker has said that Nuno has helped to unlock his potential, by simplifying things for him:
“Obviously you have to come to to your full fitness first,”
“You need to get used to the game, to the intensity as well. I think the people, my teammates, the physios, everyone helped me a lot to get there. I know if I get the best version of myself, I’m unplayable. I hope I can be consistent about it.
“I think the coach is a top manager and top person as well. When he first joined I had a lot of conversations with him and he’s just straightforward. He asked me how he can get me on top of my game and get me even higher on the levels, how he can help me improve my game statistics as well. I think when we work he gets something out of me.”
West Ham’s survival charge
Since inputting Paco Jemez, things have begun to change for West Ham. The Hammers are no just two points from safety, despite being seven adrift at the beginning of 2026. A run of three wins and two draws has Nuno’s side right in the fight for safety.
Summerville is under no illusion how hard the Hammers will have to fight, acknowledging that every game matters:
“I think we improved a lot from like how it was in the start of the season and hopefully we can keep this going,” Summerville said.
“We know where we are and we know that we have to fight and it’s until the last game we to do this for the fans as well, because I think we belong in the Premier League.
“We know how it’s going to be, it’s going to be a fight. We know that we don’t belong here like where we’re at. So it’s going to be a fight until the end. I think we improved a lot from what it was at the start. I think we have to take all the positives from the last couple of games, and now we see it game by game.
“Every game for us is a final, and I think that needs to be the mentality.”
Summerville’s form
Summerville’s form has been a big part of the West Ham revival. The former Leeds United man has three goals in his last five games. The run has taken his tally to six this season, becoming a key part of Iron’s side.
Crysencio Summerville’s 2025/26 West Ham United Statistics
| Appearances | Goals | Assists |
| 24 | 6 | 2 |
Until the arrival of Nuno, Hammers fan’s were yet to see the best of the Dutchman, but the West Ham boss appears to have unlocked an extra level from Summerville, with the attacker having the best attacking out put of any player under the current Iron’s boss.
The 24-year-old will have to find the net at Anfield, just like he did for Leeds United in 2022, for West Ham to have the best chance of leaving Merseyside with all three points tomorrow.
