West Ham have once again been named as possible contenders in the pursuit to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez

The 22-year-old is hot property and was heavily linked with the Hammers during the January transfer window.

Now it’s claimed that the Irons, Tottenham, Atletico Madrid, Newcastle United and AC Milan are all believed to be keen on the Uruguayan international.

According to a report from Calciomercato, as cited by Sempre Milan on Twitter, the interest in Nunez is rising.

The report claims that West Ham ‘tried to bring’ the eight-cap ace to the London Stadium and as such made a €48million (£40million) offer on deadline day.

So far this season Nunez – hailed in the report as ‘the new Cavani’ – has scored a remarkable 26 times and provided two assists in 33 appearances across all competitions.

Valued at £36million and under contract in Portugal until 2025 (Transfermarkt), it’s evident to see why Benfica swiftly rejected the approach from the east London club.

Already a proven goalscorer at a high level, the race to sign Nunez looks set to be an epic one in the summer, one that surely West Ham must be involved in.

Still young enough to develop further and with a host of impressive attributes, Moyes should be doing everything possible to bring the Uruguayan to the Hammers.
